One of the greatest joys of my work is bringing each client’s vision to life through bespoke design. Today, I am delighted to share a bridesmaid dress I recently created, inspired by the elegance of the 1950s.
The Story Begins with Fabric
My client selected a magnificent 100% silk dupion for the outer layer. This fabric is celebrated for its crisp texture and natural lustre, with delicate slubs and nubs that give it an unmistakable character.
What makes this dupion especially unique is the weave of rich green and deep navy threads, which creates a stunning iridescent effect. As the light shifts, the colour shimmers beautifully, giving the dress a sense of depth and movement.
Comfort Meets Luxury in the Lining
To complement the structure of the dupion, I chose a soft silk habotai lining. Featherlight, smooth and breathable, it ensures comfort from morning to evening.
The combination of crisp dupion and fluid habotai provides both refined structure and gentle softness. With 100% silk inside and out, the dress offers a luxurious feel that synthetics simply cannot replicate.
A Design Inspired by the 1950s
The design itself draws on classic mid-century silhouettes. I created a simple yet elegant V-neck bodice, paired with a seven-panelled full skirt.

The generous volume of the skirt allows it to sway gracefully with each step, while the shimmering silk adds a modern freshness to the timeless shape.

Every stage of this dress, from the very first measurements to the final hand-finished stitches, was carried out in my London studio.
