For this special project, my bride brought in a stunning floral silk dress that required a complete structural overhaul. While the fabric was exquisite, the fit was far too large, masking the bride’s silhouette.

A flawless fit: the bride’s gown was extensively resized and shortened for the perfect wedding day silhouette.
My mission was to rebuild the gown to fit her perfectly while maintaining the fluid elegance of the silk.
The Alterations Process: The transformation involved several intricate steps:
-
Precision Resizing: We took in the sides and adjusted the bodice to ensure a sleek, body-contouring fit.
-
Added Functionality: To make the dress easy to wear without compromising the aesthetic, we installed a discreet concealed zip in the left side seam.
-
Comfort & Shape: We incorporated a delicate elasticated waistband to provide both comfort for a full day of celebrations and a more defined waistline.
-
The Perfect Length: The original gown was significantly long, so we shortened the hem by approximately 30cm to create the ideal floor-skimming length.

Dancing the night away in a gown modified with a concealed zip and an elasticated waist for effortless movement.
Sustainable Styling: One of the most rewarding parts of this commission was what we did with the remnants. Rather than letting the high-quality silk offcuts go to waste, we used the 30cm of reclaimed fabric to create a bespoke matching set for the groom. We handcrafted a pocket square and a bow tie, ensuring the couple’s wedding attire was perfectly coordinated in both colour and material.
It was an honour to play a part in making this bride feel confident and radiant, while creating a unique, sentimental connection between her gown and the groom’s accessories.
